Parliament returned today after a short recess. I travelled to London early to meet pupils from Tewkesbury School, who had been on a tour of the building. We than had a meeting for an hour or so. They asked some very good questions. I then spent the rest of the day trying to catch up with paperwork.
I did some computer work and then attended a conference on horse racing, which took until early afternoon. Further paperwork was followed by a meeting with a few business people. I then had to travel quickly to Heathrow to catch a flight to Dublin, where I arrived at about 10.15pm and went straight to my hotel.
A round of meetings in Dublin as part of my Northern Ireland duties. I attended leaders' questions to the Taoiseach, and then held a number of meetings with diplomats and politicians, including former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern. I then flew back to London and enjoyed a late curry!
I carried out more paperwork and then attended a lunch as part of the Engineering & IT Group in parliament, at which the special subject was energy, on which I used to be the spokesman for the Conservative Party. I then travelled back to Tewkesbury. I was supposed to be meeting some police officers but received the message that they were much delayed due to someone very sadly and tragically hanging themselves in Bishop's Cleeve.
I held a meeting in my local office to start with, then carried out some research for my next meeting, which was with a group of farmers. I regularly meet them and then take issues up on their behalf. I then held a further meeting in my office, before carrying out further computer work. I then attended my second aborted meeting of the week, before going to Malvern to attend the retirement dinner of Sir Michael Spicer MP.
Another busy day. I started by holding a meeting at the Canterbury in Tewkesbury to discuss flooding issues. Organised by Becky from priors Park partnership, County Councillor Vernon Smith and Borough Councillor Brian Calway were present, as were a number of residents. I then travelled to various parts of my constituency to meet a number of people. In the evening, I attended a skittles match at our local pub, which was to raise money for Cancer Research UK in connection with my partner Annie's ride in the charity race at the Festival. We raised £400 in just that one night.
A day off, spent with family!
