Save our Pubs

I held a debate in the House of Commons to highlight the problem of pub closures, which are presently running at an estimated 40 a week.

Not exactly a campaign as such, but I am taking part in the Police Service Parliamentary Scheme this year. It basically involves me completing about 25 sessions with the police over the year in order to learn more about their work in detail and see the challenges they face.

Laurence is campaigning, with other Gloucestershire Mps for a better deal for local companies who offer electrical apprenticeships.

There are a number of reasons for these closures: the state of the economy, high tax on alcohol, cheap prices in supermarkets, possibly the smoking ban, some say the ownership of the PubCos (companies which own pubs and also control what they sell) and so on.

I am part of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group and also the save the Pub Group and am doing all I can to help. Pubs are a vital part of our local communities and, as such are worth saving.
